Academician-Led and Postdoctoral-Driven: Huluwa Pharmaceutical Advances to a New Level in Technological Innovation

From January 19 to 20, the Progress Report Meeting of the Academician Zhang Qiang Workstation and the Innovative Technology Exchange Conference of Huluwa Pharmaceutical Group were successfully held at the Meian Pediatric Pharmaceutical Smart Manufacturing Base in Haikou. The series of meetings focused on frontier technologies in innovative drug R&D, bringing together top industry expertise and injecting strong momentum into the Group's innovation-driven development.

On January 19, Huluwa Pharmaceutical Group convened the 2025 Progress Report Meeting of the Academician Zhang Qiang Workstation. Liu Quanguo, Director of the Academician Workstation, Vice President of the Group, and R&D Director, provided a comprehensive review of the Group's R&D achievements in 2025 and the annual performance of the Academician Workstation. Over the past year, the Group obtained approvals for 18 new product varieties, secured one clinical trial approval for a Class 1.1 new traditional Chinese medicine, and successfully achieved industrialization and market launch of eight new products.

In the concluding session, Academician Zhang Qiang and Chairperson Liu Jingping highly recognized the phased achievements of the Academician Workstation. Focusing on key topics such as "core drivers of industrial upgrading" and "new quality productive forces enabling high-quality enterprise development", they conducted in-depth discussions on the pathways and directions for cultivating new quality productive forces in the pharmaceutical industry and jointly explored the innovation roadmap for Hainan's pharmaceutical sector.

On January 20, the Innovation Technology Exchange Conference of Huluwa Pharmaceutical Group was successfully held. Academician Zhang Qiang; Lü Chongning, Vice Dean of the School of Traditional Chinese Materia Medica at Shenyang Pharmaceutical University; Associate Professor Zhao Yudan (a newly admitted postdoctoral fellow of the Group); Zhang Xiaoshu, Vice Dean of the School of Functional Foods and Wine (a former postdoctoral fellow of the Group); and other experts and scholars gathered to discuss innovation.

As the core session of the conference, Academician Zhang Qiang delivered a keynote presentation on nanopharmaceutical formulations, systematically explaining frontier concepts and technological development trends. His presentation was clear and accessible while maintaining theoretical depth and practical guidance value, enabling R&D, production, and quality management personnel of the Group to gain a deeper understanding of the technological advancement and innovative application prospects of nanomedicines.

Associate Professor Zhao Yudan's report, "Progress in the Study of Quality Markers of Compound Fresh Dendrobium Granules", closely addressed the Group's need to improve the quality of its core product. She shared the latest research findings and practical approaches, providing actionable innovative ideas for full-lifecycle quality control of the product.

The successful convening of this series of meetings is both a concentrated demonstration of the Group's R&D capabilities and an important milestone in promoting innovation-driven development. Taking this conference as a new starting point, the Group will further deepen industry-academia-research collaborative innovation with academicians’ workstations, postdoctoral workstations, and research institutions. It will establish a regular expert advisory mechanism, increase efforts to attract high-level innovative talent, accelerate the translation and application of scientific achievements, and continuously advance innovative drug R&D and product quality upgrading, contributing Huluwa's strength to safeguarding public health and supporting the high-standard development of the Hainan Free Trade Port.
